2023 Round Up

As we prepare for another big year in Blackpool’s Heritage Action Zone it’s worth taking a few moments to reflect on all that was achieved in 2023.

There have been some very visible changes in the landscape of the HAZ, which runs along Church Street, through Cedar Square and along Edward Street, Deansgate and part of Topping Street.

The most visible of these was the long awaited re-opening of Abingdon Street Market in May. The building was opened in 1862 as Blackpool’s police station – a detail preserved in the stone-carved sign above the Abingdon Street entrance – before being converted to an indoor market in 1928.
